Who we are
RoadMate is a mobile application that connects drivers who need roadside assistance with nearby mechanics in Pakistan. It is published by HackTech Zone. This policy explains what information the app collects, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.
By creating a RoadMate account you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Name, email address, phone number | To create and secure your account, and so the driver and mechanic can identify and contact each other during a job. |
| Approximate and precise location | To find mechanics near you, to show the mechanic your breakdown location, to display live location and ETA while a job is in progress, and to estimate the fare by distance. |
| Profile photo (optional) | Shown to the other party so they can recognise who is arriving. |
| Mechanics only: workshop name, services offered, years of experience, CNIC number and CNIC photo | To verify that a mechanic is a real, accountable service provider before they can accept jobs. CNIC details are used for verification only and are never shown to drivers. |
| Mechanics only: Easypaisa / JazzCash account number and transaction ID when topping up the wallet | To match your payment to your wallet and credit the correct balance. |
| Service requests, chat messages, ratings and reviews | To operate the service, keep a history you can refer back to, and maintain mechanic ratings. |
| Device identifiers and push notification token | To deliver notifications about new job requests, acceptances and messages. |
How we use your information
- Create and manage your account.
- Match drivers with nearby mechanics and broadcast breakdown requests.
- Show live location, route and ETA while a job is under way.
- Enable calling and in-app chat between the two parties for that job.
- Estimate fares and calculate the platform commission deducted from a mechanic's wallet.
- Send notifications relevant to your requests.
- Investigate abuse, fraud and safety issues, and keep the service reliable.
What we share, and with whom
- With the other party in a job. When you raise or accept a request, the other person sees your name, phone number and live location — for that job only.
- With service providers. The app runs on Google Firebase (authentication, database, file storage, push notifications) and uses Google Maps and OpenStreetMap to draw maps and routes. These providers process data on our behalf.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Payments
Payment for a repair is made in cash, directly between the driver and the mechanic. RoadMate never handles that money.
Mechanics keep a prepaid in-app wallet. A small platform commission is deducted from that wallet after each completed job. To top the wallet up, a mechanic sends money using their own Easypaisa or JazzCash app and then submits the transaction ID in RoadMate for verification. We do not collect or store card numbers, CVV codes or bank login credentials.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Service history and chat messages are retained so that both parties have a record of past jobs. When you delete your account, your profile is permanently removed as described below.
Delete your account and data
You can permanently delete your RoadMate account and profile at any time:
- In the app: open
Settings → Delete Accountand confirm. - On the web, without opening the app: see the dedicated account deletion page.
Deleting your account removes your profile, photos and personal details. Records that we are required to keep — such as a completed job's commission entry — are retained in anonymised form and can no longer be linked back to you. To request deletion of specific data without closing your account, see the data deletion page.
Security
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure and is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Access is restricted by server-side security rules. No system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects your data.
Children
RoadMate is not directed at children. You must be at least 18 years old, and hold a valid driving licence where the law requires one, to use the app. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your choices
- Edit or correct your profile at any time from the Profile screen.
- Turn off location permission in your phone settings — note that finding mechanics and sharing your breakdown location will no longer work.
- Turn off notifications in your phone settings — you will no longer be alerted to new requests or messages.
- Delete your account, as described above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version, and material changes will be announced in the app.
